HOW IT WORKS

YOUR KEY, ZERO COST

BYOK Mode lets you use your own Anthropic API key for all skill executions on clanker. When your key is active, executions cost 0 dollarinos. The platform routes requests directly through your key instead of the shared pool.

This is ideal if you already have an Anthropic account with credits, want to use your own rate limits, or simply prefer to self-manage your AI compute. You keep full control over your API usage and billing with Anthropic directly.

01 ADD YOUR KEY

Go to Settings in the app and paste your Anthropic API key (starts with sk-ant-). The key is stored securely and never exposed in logs or responses.

02 EXECUTE SKILLS

Run any skill from the marketplace or your custom skills. The platform automatically uses your key for the AI model call. No configuration needed per-skill.

03 PAY NOTHING

Executions using your key cost 0 dollarinos. Your Anthropic account is billed directly by Anthropic at their standard rates. Your dollarino balance stays untouched.

DOLLARINO FALLBACK

AUTOMATIC RETRY WITH PLATFORM KEY

The dollarino fallback toggle (on by default) ensures your executions never fail silently. If your API key hits a rate limit, runs out of credits, or encounters any error, the platform automatically retries the execution using the shared platform key.

When fallback activates, the retry execution is billed at the normal dollarino rate. This means you get uninterrupted service while your key issues resolve themselves. You can disable fallback in settings if you prefer strict BYOK-only operation.

ON BY DEFAULT

Fallback is enabled when you add your key. Your executions always complete, even if your key has temporary issues.

TRANSPARENT BILLING

BYOK executions: 0 Ds. Fallback executions: normal dollarino cost. You always know which billing path was used.

TOGGLE CONTROL

Turn fallback off to run strictly on your own key. If your key fails, the execution fails. Full control, no surprises.

BYOK vs PLATFORM KEY

Your key always takes priority. The platform key is only used when BYOK is not configured or when fallback activates.

SETUP

IN-APP CONFIGURATION

Open the clanker app and navigate to your account settings. Scroll to the "BRING YOUR OWN KEY" section. Tap "ADD ANTHROPIC KEY" and paste your key. The key must start with sk-ant- to be accepted.

Once saved, all subsequent skill executions will use your key automatically. A checkmark indicator shows your active key with a masked preview. To remove your key and revert to platform billing, tap "REMOVE KEY".

KEY FORMAT

Must start with sk-ant-. This is the standard Anthropic API key format from console.anthropic.com.

KEY STORAGE

Stored server-side. Only a masked preview (first 7 + last 4 chars) is ever returned to the client.

You can also manage your BYOK key via the REST API: PUT, GET, DELETE on /api/v1/byok.

WHY BYOK

If you already have an Anthropic account, BYOK Mode is the fastest way to get full value from clanker with zero added cost. Your key, your compute, your bill — directly with Anthropic at their rates. We stay out of the middle.

You get every feature: chat, workflows, MCP, memory, and the skill marketplace. No subscriptions, no plan differences — all features are available to every authenticated user.
